Men on Boats was the first sound design I created where the storytelling and movement was in sync with some of my sound design. There were boat crashes, river rapids, canyons echos and more. This was also the first sound design where I created a localized firecrackling sound that lived in the set fire. I worked with the lighting and set designers to build a realistic looking and sounding fire, including sound of sizzling fish when the actors cooked their food.
This sound design was definitely more lived in and nature based. There was no music excepts some faint ambient hums and I did a lot of field recording for sound effects to edit together.

Lost Girl was the first show I sound designed post college, and I was extremely lucky that it was a play written by a playwright I adore.
I immediately knew this would be more of a cinematic sound design by the way the script was written without any scene transitions, everything just flowed or immediately cut into the next scene.
I also came up with a ticking clock as the through-line of my design concept. The ticking would begin any time Wendy gave herself a few minutes to think about Peter, and would therefore leave the show completely when he left her life.

Detective, Doctor and Therapist Settings
This shows three distinct locations I created, that would always occur back to back in a sequence. The detective was cruel and made Wendy anxious which is why there is so much noise. The doctor made Wendy uneasy which is why the music is eerie. The therapist made Wendy feel like she could start to open up which is why the music is a little more joyous and playful, while still being calming.
The Addams Family was the first musical I worked on post college.
For my design I focussed on highlighting some comedic moments through sound, and creating over the top extreme sounds to enhance comedic moments.
For engineering I created two different microphone breakdowns which are linked below. We used 24 wireless mic packs and had a 12 piece orchestra. The show was programmed and mixed on a Soundcraft Performer 3 Console.

War Brides was the first play I fully sound designed on my own. Our student producing organization couldn't afford rights to any play so we had to pick a public domain show.
The director requested that I take full liberties with my design and insisted that sound was going to help with the pacing and storytelling of the play. The play covered some difficult topics to stage which is where a lot of my design came into play.
I took a more cinematic approach with my design allowing music to represent a lot of what was happening off stage or establishing a tone for what was happening on stage.

Matt and Ben was the first comedy I sound designed, and it was very fun to experiment with how sound can enhance the comedy of a play or even add new moments of comedy through sound design.
This design was much more sound effects based and less music based. I decided to just sprinkle sound design throughout the show instead of having there be sound throughout the majority of the play.
This allowed for the moments of sound to be more impactful and in the end got a lot more laughs from the audience.

For my undergraduate sound design project, I sound designed an excerpt of the radio play War Of The Worlds. For this I recorded with friends of mine that were studying acting and edited those recordings together with sound effects to establish the chaos happening around them.
Below are some excerpts from this project.
